Why does your company need a Facebook bot?

Facebook is a great way for your company to keep in touch with the users. It's free to use so why should you put time, effort and money in developing a platform that doesn't get direct revenue return?

The truth is, that there's quite a lot of ways to make a positive return on the KPI's on Facebook. Whether it is revenue, customer satisfaction or a third option. A Facebook bot is known to be a great tool to engage the users. This post will tell you why.

But first, a bit of info on Facebook and chatbots.

Is a Facebook bot a chatbot?

The VIP of Facebook Messenger, David Marcus, stated, at the 2017 Facebook F8 conference, that a Facebook bot and a chatbot is two different programs.

We never called them chatbots.... We called them bots. People took it too literally in the first three months that the future is going to be conversational.
— David Marcus

He addressed this because there had been some disappointment in the community due to expectations of implementation of conversational AI bots and not GUI bots.

If Facebook bots aren't chatbots, why are they so popular?

If people want chatbots and Facebook doesn't facilitate this, why do companies spend resources on this?  The main selling point on why Facebook is so important with bots is the sheer volume of Messenger users.

It was reported that Facebook Messenger, by 2016 had grown to an astonishing 1,2 billion users. This is exactly why Facebook is the highlight of bots. Everyone uses Facebook, and everyone uses Messenger, so the thought is then that everyone already on these platforms will also use bots.

Is Facebook helping bots development?

Yes, Facebook is very interested in assisting and in the popularity of Facebook bots. They have, for example, added an in-chat menu for users to navigate within bots without conversation.

Still need to be convinced? Here are some numbers.

There are 100.000 active Facebook bots.

Sephora saw an 11% increase in booked makeup session when directing people to their Facebook bot.

Rogers reported a 60% increase in customer satisfaction when implementing a Facebook support bot.

In the Ubisend 2016 messaging report, it was surveyed that over 50% of users prefer communicating through a chat interface

The same report concluded the following;

Over 50% of people surveyed said it is important for a business to be available, contactable and responding promptly 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Over 60% of consumers believe businesses should be available, contactable and responsive through messaging apps.”
